I'd recommend Redhat series of Linux distributions (not
Fedora Core, though) if you are expecting stability and
good support for your server-class hardware and
third-party commercial/enterprise software.

If you are an experienced admin who needs more
control, and if your requirement does not emphasize
"Enterprise support", then Slackware/Gentoo/Debian would
suffice.
