I bought a Bafo Technologies, BF-810 USB to serial
converter at Mercy Electronics, L.B. Road, Chennai for
around Rs.450/-. It uses the PL-2303 driver. I also
bought a serial port DB-9 female to DB-9 female
converter for around Rs.50/-.

The converter and cable come with a CD which has the
PL-2303 Linux drivers for 2.4 for Redhat 9. But, the
packaging cover only specifies drivers for winblow$.
Huh! The stock kernel sources already have the latest
drivers.

I compiled drivers/usb/serial/usbserial.ko and
drivers/usb/serial/pl2303.ko and loaded them on
2.6.12.3. It was detected fine and /dev/ttyUSB0 was
created!

Thanks to Binand and Vijairaj for their suggestions.

Regards,

SK
