[Ilugc] Internet connection problem

Hi,
I have HSP56 Micromodem on redhat linux 9 and used kppp to connect to
internet(BSNL dialup). It did not work by default in redhat linux 9. I
installed downloaded driver files for the modem from a third party
site and was successful in dialling up. But as soon as I get CONNECT
from other end that is BSNL my pppd crashes saying cannot find
"interface ppp0" I have only modem and not ethernet card. I think kppp
does ppp over ethernet. I tried to run pppd before dialling up. I
cannot find ppp in system services too. Can anyone tell of any
solutions? Did anyone face the same problem?
