Recently I have got Sify Broadband Connection (200 MB/1month). They have
provided a nice graphical login interface for windows but the linux one
is usable only in the CLI mode. Also the connection details do not show
up in linux.
It's sad to note that while Sify boasts of High Speed (!), in reality,
the speed is far less when compared an ordinary dial up connection. Of
course in the night time it works a little better, that too after 10
PM. I lodged a complaint under no: 1548891 but even after a gap of 4
days I'm yet to get a call from them. In spite of their indifferent
customer service , I again contacted them and I had no other go but to
be satisfied with registering my phone number with their IVRS. This also
did not evoke any response from them. Still I wonder how Sify can be so
indifferent towards its customers.
One solace is that one of their CCEs Mr Nuthan Prasad replied my mail ,
although it was of very little help to me. He has stated that there is
no mail client in linux as Outlook Express is in Windows. Also he has
given the site address to download the dialler which I have already got.
Even in the Sify site they have given the server details as IMAP for
incoming mail, whereas it works only when I configure it as POP3.
Can any Sify user throw some light as to the GUI dialler/ KDE appln.
(like KPPP for dial up) in linux for Sify.
I've copied the mail I received from Sify.
Welcome to Sify Mail.
A safe, secure mailing environment made possible with a host of advanced features that will
have you signing up for it. In hordes.
How to configure your POP3...
You'll need to configure the POP3 server setting for E-Mail client programs
(such as Eudora, Outlook, Netscape etc) so that it can retrieve messages from your
Sify Mail account.
In case your mail client specifies a port, the port for POP3 is 110.
The basic Server settings for Sify Mail are...
* Incoming Mail (POP3) server: imap.sify.com
* Outgoing Mail (SMTP) server: smtp.sify.com
* Account Name/Login Name: Your Sify user name without ?@sify.com?
* E-mail address: Your Sify Mail address I.e username at sify.com
* Password: Same as Sify Mail
In the ?Properties? option of your e-mail client, under the outgoing mail server you need
to authenticate your server.
Even after you configure your mail program to receive Sify Mail messages, you can always
login into your Sify Mail account to receive and send messages.
And this is the mail I received from one of their CCEs.
1. For Outlook Express mails you can configure the POP3 as
*pop3.sify.com* as incoming mail server and SMTP as
*asmtp.sifybroadband.com *in the port *587*.For more details about this
configuration you can reach the SIFY customer care in 1901443330/22540868
2. For Linux operating system there is no webbased client. You need to
get the download page in the following URL (http://220.127.116.11:8090
select the Linux Operating system Link and download the client to your
root directory. Then you need to Untar the file which was you
downloaded. Please find the Client installation document as attachment.
3. This account exhausting will happen as first come first out basis. If

clarifications.SIFY customer care *1901443330/22540868*
