the unstable version of debian is called "Sid" and testing version is
called "Etch". If you do a complete dist-upgrage to debian sid, then you
will no longer hold relevance to security updates since you will be
working on an "unstable environment" and will have access too bleeding
edge software. However personally, i use Debian Sid and have not found
it to be the least bit "unstable" ;-) unless you mean for your system to
be a server, i would suggest you do an "apt-get update && apt-get
dist-upgrade" and changing all your "stable" to "unstable"
in /etc/apt/sources.list (provided you have a good net connection of
course)
