Are you talking about Itanium or Core Duo. Core Duo/Core 2 Duo is not 64-bit.
Not sure if ubuntu has a IA64 port (itanium), they have on for the AMD
64-bit(x86-64) proc's.

Debian has both IA64 and x86-64.
