If you really feel comfortable with VB you can make a switch with small
gap using Gambas which is an GPL (free) IDE based on a Basic interpreter
with object extensions, like Visual Basic.

http://gambas.sourceforge.net/

Internally Gambas use Qt frameworks. So you can switch to this C++
framework latter.
