After the hopelessly bitter, shocking experience I had with the best linux magazine in India I was determined to start a competing magazine and show that technical excellence will win end of the day.
It is similar to the statement that movie directors make.
" We make such movies since the audience wants that."
Well, this is only an excuse. Not a fact.
Similarly the stance that "we are number one" and India does not need high quality articles and hence this will do is the attitude that drove me mad for nearly a fortnight after my negotiations failed with that magazine.
I know at least 15 names in ILUGC at the top of my head right now who can write much better articles than any magazine anywhere on earth can produce.
However at least to begin with, we should have only an online PDF version.
That obviously implies that we get paid only thro' ads.
Fighting against the #1 magazine in India is by no means an easy task and we have to do it slowly. Step by step.
As to the advantages of writing articles. Well I don't have to explain.
a) It clarifies your thought process
b) You are forced to learn several new things
c) You are forced to try out new things to write about them
d) name and fame and glory and what not. :)
How many of you find this idea attractive?
We will see how it works for a month or two. Down the line if things work out really well(which it will), then we can even release print versions and convert it into a financial venture.
No, I don't have time for that.
I will tell you how easy it is to get started on the magazine. We can use several of the questions and answers that are archived in the list and that come up each day to feed the magazine. NBD.
It needs more structure than that but at least it is a good starting point.
It is very essential to get the art part right. How many of you are good artists?
It will be preferrable to do computer art directly but if you can draw well on paper that is also fine.
English of course is not at all a problem since I have never seen a single mail in ILUGC with grammar or spelling errors.
Then what are you waiting for?
Let us start. :)
PS:- If the idea of "fighting" sounds childish to you let me tell you that this is the attitude that West has towards everything they do. Only in India we stupidly believe that "fighting spirit" is a bad attitude. To do good we fight evil; What can possibly be wrong with that?
