The easiest way to verify if you need more ram or not is to check your
swap usage , with and without the software under testing -- eclipse in
your case -- if more swap space or any at is being used , its
definitely a sign that you need more ram.
And webservers also need to be optimized to uses less ram , I had an
issue where once 25 instances of apache was running , checked using ps
aux | grep apache ,
and each was taking around 1.4% mem . tweaking the serverfreed a lot of memory.
Genreally rule of thumb is , if swap space used is more than a few
Mb(on regualr desktops) , you need more ram.
