If 95% dont even care to give this simple feedback would democracy really be
ravaged by just ignoring their preference and go ahead with reply-to munging
anyway?!!

As someone already mentioned, this is a feature the need for which is felt
most by regular post'ers. So it does not really bother the 'silent' majority
whether the reply-to field is munged or not.
