in my exerience with novices, this wont work. In the first place, the  
machine is probably set to boot off the harddrive and needs a cmos  
setup change to boot from Cd - that alone would daunt him. I tried  
the other day, instructing a hardware *dealer* in coimbatore to setup  
an airtel internet connection in mandriva - where it is all gui - and  
failed miserably.
