I've been using the kmdl module and userland apps from atrpms.net for my 
ipw3945abg interface, perhaps try that ? or rpmforge also has the 
modules and userland code for this.

Look at http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Laptops/Wireless - there are hints 
there on howto get the install from rpmforge.
