[Ilugc] need advice

I am developing an e archive for my university library. I am going to use
DSpace there. The problem is: "not so much high configuration machines are
there".
The configuration is: approximately:

P-4 1.0 Ghz
256 MB ram
10 GB Hdd
32 MB video

I have to use linux distros there. Now, which distro do you suggest me to
use in those sort of machines? Here, my boss is little bit "rpm lover". So,
it will be wise if i can use any rpm based distro. By the way, i installed
Fedora 7 there, but it was really slow there.
