To copy files between Linux desktop and your XP desktop, without going
through the hassles of configuring samba.

1. Download WinSCP on your Win XP box
2. Install WinSCP on WinXP
3. Enable sshd on Linux box
4. From WinXP connect to your Linux box using WinSCP.
5. xfre/sync files between Linux and XP box to your hearts content.

Linux to Linux plenty of solutions - scp, rsync (over ssh), unison.
