I agree too, but for now it is out of my budget.  I'd rather buy the 
extra hard disk than spend $150+ on an decent entry level SATA RAID 
card.

This particular server, is for our own office; don't anticipate disk IO 
as an issue w.r.t software RAID.

On the hardware RAID, I prefer the LSI cards (Megaraid, Symbios/NCR); 
costs are comparable to Adaptec, and they supported open source drivers 
from way back circa 1995 IIRC.  Whereas, Adaptec has been a convert the 
last few years.  Just my opinion :)
