What can you do now?
Are there alternatives for installing the exact printer driver? I have
never used CUPS for printing.
Well I have never owned a personal printer till now.
Try LPRng.
Try LDP.
$ nc -v $printerip 515
Is it a USB printer with no Ethernet port?
Can you install some other generic driver? Perhaps it is a postscript printer?
I think normally only high end printers support postscript.
The other thing is that normally in a Debian system(on which *buntu is
based), once you get
dependency problems you are mostly on your own.
It is a tall order and their package management system though the best
in the Linux world is quite
a sore area.
Moreover Debian suffers from oldness.
Not sure about Ubuntu though.
