Earlier you said you had a parallel port to the printer. Please give
complete information when asking a question.

Can you check output of:

  $ lsmod | grep -e usb -e printer

Do you have any device files in /dev/lp* or /dev/ttyUSB*?

Are you able to detect this printer through gnome-control-center ->
Printing, and able to print anything from any GUI application?

How much is this printer, and what are its dimensions (do you have a
picture of it)?
