Suggest you do the following:
a) check physical connections. I'm assuming that is ok as the machine
was accessible on the network at some time.
b) Check if the ethernet interface has IP address.. ip ad sh or ifconfig etc.
c) Check if both the machines are in the same subnet if connected
thro' a switch.
d) Check if you can ping the other machine from the server.
e) If pinging the server from the other machine fails, check iptables
config on the server.
