Past Research Activities
  • Collaborated with Prof. Goryacheva from Russian Academy of Sciences in the implementation of solution to partial slip contact problems in nominally flat contacts of similar materials.
  • Developed a computationally efficient numerical tool based on Cauchy singular integral equations (SIE) to solve the 2D partial slip contact problem for similar isotropic material surfaces with random profile.
  • Developed high temperature fretting fatigue testing setup to operate at 610C.
  • Fretting fatigue of Titanium and Nickel alloys (isotropic), and Single Crystal Nickel superalloys (anisotropic) used in turbine attachments of aircraft jet engine hardware: Stress fields from the SIE model, Life prediction using multi-axial fatigue parameters and fracture mechanics approach.
  • Used finite element analysis tools to investigate mechanical characteristics of the experimental setup used for fretting tests.
  • Investigation of the tribological aspects of fretting such as evolution of friction coefficient and wear at the contact interface.
  • Contact (fretting) fatigue amelioration by surface treatments like shot-peening, surface coatings, Laser Shock Peening
  • Analytical solutions to 2D partial slip/partial reverse slip contact problems for similar isotropic materials with cylindrical/nominally flat profiles.
  • Developed Materials Testing Facility with fretting testing capability in Structures Laboratory at IIT Madras.
