M-Tech in Aerospace Engineering / M-Tech in Ammunition Technology

Eligibility for the program

  • Registered through an industry/ organization recognized by IIT-M
  • Forwarded through/by the industry
  • Pass an entry test on basic maths, fluid mechanics, strength of materials & thermodynamics
  • The candidates should possess Bachelor's degree in Aerospace/Civil/Chemical/Computer Science/Electrical/Mechanical/Metallurgical/Naval Architecture OR Master's degree in Physics/Mathematics/Chemistry
  • The candidate should have a minimum of 2 years industry experience

Program modalities

  • 1 lecture hour every evening on a working day
  • One tutorial hour per week for all the core courses.
  • A year is divided into 3 trimesters of 15 weeks each, two courses per trimester
  • 2 personal interactions with faculty in every course
  • Inputs will be taken from the students & the organizations to shortlist electives from a basket
  • 1 year project: any problem of interest to the organization with some academic content. Project guidance can be from within the organization or by the faculty. It will always be evaluated by IITM.
  • No laboratory courses as they already have enough practical experience. If there is a demand from Industry, lab courses can also be offered
  • Lab credits replaced by tutorial credits to encourage class room problem solving
  • Project at parent company
  • If guidance is required by any faculty, Industry has to work the costing with the faculty as a consultancy project

Course Brief

  • Degree certificate Identical to that awarded to regular students resident at IITM
  • 3-Year program
  • 2 courses per trimester (certificate of completion for each course)
  • Degree requirement: 6 core courses, 5 electives, 1 project
  • One lecture hour every evening
  • Intensive tutorials based learning to ensure grasping of concepts
  • Scheduled personal interaction with faculty twice a trimester

Typical Trimester Activity

  • 6 weeks - Online contact: One lecture session of 75 min/day. (Definition: one lecture credit (L) is one 50 min lecture. Per week 3 lecture credit for a 10 credit course, ie, for 150 minutes, 2 lecture sessions per week per course.)
  • 1 week - Buffer: makeup for lost classes / visit to IITM / exercise catch up
  • 6 weeks - Online contact: one lecture session of 75 min/day
  • 1 week - Buffer: makeup for lost classes
  • 1 week - IITM: Visit to IITM/interaction with faculty/final exam at IITM
